We have long had a love-affair with horses.

Since 4000 BCE we started to domesticate horses and today, we view horses as our friends and companions.

When I was young, one of my favorite books was Black Beauty. Black Beauty is a brave, noble, and handsome horse who had to go through many hardships; but he meets some great equine and human friends along the way. It is a beautiful story capturing the complex and deep that bonds that can develop between human and horse.

It is also interesting that girls are generally more attracted to horses than boys.

In the horse world, there are more female participants in most areas except in horse racing and the rodeo. Some people speculate that this is because taming a horse is like taming a bad boy. However, I think that horses appeal to women not because we can dominate them, but rather because we can build a deep, lasting, and special bond with them. It is rare and difficult to establish such a bond with our fellow humans.

For these reasons and more, horse themed gifts are a great way to say I love you, and I care.

My favorite horse jewelry are earrings. You can get horse stud earrings or horse dangle earrings. I prefer the dangle earrings because they are more prominent and can be easily admired by others.

Horse jewelry usually comes in silver or gold. Some horse pendants also come in precious stones such as moonstone, jasper, or obsidian.

A horse is the projection of peoples' dreams about themselves - strong, powerful, beautiful - and it has the capability of giving us escape from our mundane existence.

Horse figurines make great gifts for both children and adults.

Horse figurines come in a variety of materials including brass, porcelain, pewter, metal, redwood, glass, plastic, and more. Plastic horse figurines are more appropriate for children as they are light and not easily broken when dropped.

For a more magical experience, there are also beautiful figurines for unicorns and flying horses.

In feng shui horses signify freedom, speed, authority, strength, and success. As such, horse paintings and figurines are popular in Asian businesses and offices.

Place your horse figurines in open, lived-in spaces. Avoid small, dark rooms such as the closet, bathroom, or the garage. Feng shui experts frequently advise against putting horses in bedrooms as the fire energy of the horse may cause insomnia.

The horse figurine pose also has different significance in feng shui. Two of the most popular horse poses (from the feng-shui perspective), is the rearing horse and the running horse. The rearing horse is a very dominant position thereby indicating strength, authority, and success. Running horses symbolize power, speed, stamina, and freedom.

The noble aspect of a horse makes it a favorite subject among artists everywhere. As a result, there are a wide range of horse art and posters to choose from.

In Chinese art, horses are often painted in black watercolor on rice paper. The simplicity of these pieces highlight the motion, musculature, and shape of the horse. Western art more often feature horses in color, using oils and/or acrylic.

Horses are also popular in fantasy art. In fantasy art, unicorns and flying horses make frequent appearances over saturated backgrounds that are often rendered in cool colors such as blue, purple, or green.

In fact, horse designs can be found on most of our every-day objects including bags, mugs, toys, benches, fences, quilts, clothing, and much much more.

Therefore if you are not into jewelry, figurines, or art, there are many other contexts in which you may enjoy the gift of horses.
